Dorothy "Dot" Marie Brinkman, 85, of Arkansas City, died Monday (January 12, 2015) at the South Central Kansas Medical Center. A Scripture Vigil Service and The Rosary will be prayed 6:30 p.m. Thursday (January 15, 2015) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday also at the Church. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery. Dorothy was born February 23, 1929, in Arkansas City, to Glenn and Joy (Alexander) Haslett. She was reared and educated in Arkansas City, graduating from high school in 1947, and Kansas State University in 1951. Dot married H. Eugene "Gene" Brinkman on May 24, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The couple lived in Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri before returning to Arkansas City. Dot was a homemaker and a wonderful fiber artist. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Society, PEO Chapter ER, American Field Service, Martha Washington Extension Unit, Walnut Valley Quilter's Guild (1st President and charter member), Arkansas City Indoor Tennis Association, and longtime 4-H leader. Survivors include her husband Gene of the home; children Bruce and wife Kay Brinkman of Wichita, Brenda and husband Jon Cunningham of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Father Barry Brinkman of Salina; grandchildren B.J. and Bryce Brinkman, Erin and husband Clayton Johnson, Luke Louderback; great-grandchildren Ainslee and Eion Johnson She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jean Rahn, and brothers Don, Max and Glenn Haslett. A memorial has been established with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Altar Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
