MARQUETTE HEIGHTS ~ Dorothy Carolyn Lovell, 73, of Marquette Heights, passed away at 8 :30 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Pekin Manor, where she had resided for the last few weeks due to a lengthy illness.
Born on January 6, 1947 in Greeneville, Tennessee to Harold P. and Mary Ellen (Kelley) Stanton, she married James Lovell in 1968 in Fairview. He died September 7, 1992 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Linda Severs and two brothers, Robert and Norman Stanton.
Left to cherish her memory is her son James (Sandra) Lovell of Tallassee, Tennessee; one daughter Marcella Lovell of Marquette Heights; five grandchildren Nora Lovell, Kendra, Terry (Crystal), Brandon (Courtney), Mariah (Michael); six great-grandchildren, Gavin, Allison, Olivia, Noah, Brooklyn and Sophia; one sister Donna Stanton; brother in laws John (Barbara) Lovell and Ronnie (Carlene) Lovell and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family relocated to East Peoria, where she graduated from East Peoria Community High School. She then attended Canton School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1968. Dorothy “Carolyn” was perfectly fitted for the role as a Registered Nurse, as she had the most generous and giving spirit of anyone you would meet.
She worked as a Registered Nurse at Pekin Hospital until her retirement in 2009.
Dorothy had the most gentle ways and all who knew her will remember her gentle smile, her soft spoken words and her love of crochet. Crocheting was a passion of hers and she turned out some of the most beautiful works of art, which she always gave away to baby showers, benefits or family. If you have a piece that she crocheted for you, she put love into every stitch.
She truly fought the good fight, but left us quietly and peacefully. She is healed and whole now. What a reunion she surely had. Rest well dear Dorothy, you will be greatly missed. You left your mark of love on all of us.
Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Burial will be at a later date at Roberts Cemetery in Morton.
Memorial contributions may be given to Illinois Cancer Center Foundation, 8940 Wood Sage Road, Peoria, Illinois 61615 or Tazewell Animal Protective Society, 100 TAPS Lane, Pekin, Illinois 61554.
