Dorris Edward Givens, of Little Dixie, Kentucky, died Monday, December 28, 2020, on his 77th birthday due to complications from Covid-19.
He was an active member of Dixie United Methodist Church. He lived life out loud with a smile that opened doors and hearts, creating a legacy of kindness and love that touched the lives of many. Anyone who knew Dorris knew he had a giving heart. They also knew that if they needed it, anything he owned was theirs. He was a farmer, he was a truck driver, and he was the transportation coordinator for Givens International Drilling Supplies. He was the face of Givens International and the epitome of customer service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorris M. and Christine Kellen Givens.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Susie Powell Givens; two daughters, Dawn Caton and her husband, Roger, and Randa Gary and her husband, Bill, both of Little Dixie, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Aaron Edward Caton, Mason Sidney Lee Caton, William Isaac Gary, and Isabelle Pennington Ann Gary; sister-in-law, Bonnie Powell Baggerly and her husband, Hal; nieces and nephews; and cousins.
While it breaks our hearts, Dorris’s funeral will be private because we have so much love and respect for all of you and want to keep everyone safe during the Covid-19 time.
The private funeral will be at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. Pastor Mark Hobgood will officiate. Burial will be in Corydon Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Pallbearers will be Wes Baggerly, Matt Baggerly, Tommy Littlepage, Allen Goodman, Bobby Waddle, Barry L. Schneider, Jr., Jeff Francis, and Greg Bonnot.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Cleveland, Don Bowling, Jimmy Newcom, Shirley Garrard, Hal Baggerly, Dwight Crooks, Tracy Crooks, Allen Sutton, Wayne Hughes, and Myron Woodard.
As soon as is possible, a celebration of Dorris’s life will be held for all his family and friends—date to be announced.
Dorris loved supporting the good works of his church’s ministries and of the educational scholarships provided through his professional organizations.
