Mineral Point - Douglas William Carley, age 72 of Mineral Point passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, November 24, 2014. Doug was born on February 22, 1942, to Hugo & Madeline (Schreiner) Carley, Dodgeville, WI. After high school graduation, Doug was drafted into the United States Army and served in the 1st Battalion of the 28th Infantry. Doug was a patriot, loved his country and proudly served in the Vietnam War from 1965-1966. Upon returning from Vietnam, Doug married the most amazing woman on February 11, 1967, Mary Blaser, Hollandale, WI. Doug worked 38 years for Wingra Stone, Madison. He was proud to be Wingra's #1 driver. Doug retired from Wingra in the fall of 2008. Mineral Point was always home and where they raised their two daughters, Rachael & Jen. It's also the place where Doug could be seen cruising Mineral Point, lending a neighbor a hand or having morning coffee at the Pit Stop. Doug is survived by his loving and compassionate wife Mary, two daughters, Rachael (Steve) Prochaska, Dodgeville, Jennifer (Peter) Laskowski, Stevens Point. Grandchildren Carley & Kelsey Prochaska & Holly & Justice Laskowski. Two sisters, Terry (Wayne) Ottoway, Allen, TX, Cheryl (Mark) Greenwood, Mineral Point. Two brothers, Phil (Janet) Carley, Monticello and Glen Wiesen, Mineral Point, WI and many fun loving nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Hugo & Madeline, his step-father Milton (Kirby) Wiesen and his beautiful sister, Linda Wiesen-Schaaf and his best buddy, Frank McCarville. Doug loved his family and was proud of his daughters and his grandchildren. Celebration of Doug's life will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2014 at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME in Mineral Point. Private family inurnment with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the Mineral Point American Legion will be held in St. Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Mineral Point American Legion.
