Not sure what to say?

"Mr. Crate" was my fourth grade teacher at the Bozorth Campus Elementary School in Glassboro NJ, more than 45 years ago. His was a strong guiding force, what a rarity to find a man of such conviction and verve in an elementary school setting.

We met Doug when he and Sally moved into a house on Beamer's Knob in VA. He was such a special person, a total delight to engage in stimulating conversation. I loved his stories about school ~ it was so obvious that he was that teacher we all would love to have for our own or for our children.

We had a place that we had purchased directly across from them. We came there most weekends when our children were young. We so looked forward to watching the hummingbirds come to...

To Doug and family,I'm so sorry to hear about your loss our thoughts and prayers go out to you.I just lost my mother Rose Delmonte in aug 2008 and just wanted to let you know i share your sadness...

I had the honor of being taught by Mr. Crate in 6th grade at Downeast Elementary School during the 1981-1982 school year. He was a tough, but loving teacher who was one of my favorites. He instilled a sense of hard work in all of us that year and that has carried with me since. I have always fondly remembered Mr. Crate and his teaching style stood out in my mind over many of the other teachers I had over the years. I am honored to be able to say I was one of his many students.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. I know how painful that can be. My sincerest condolences to you and your family.

As one of your Centering Prayer List Friends, I send you my condolences on your loss and my prayers for your family and friends. When I read your father's obituary, I immediately thought of this saying from Jesus, "Suffer the little children to come unto me for such is the kingdom of Heaven." Someone who never "left the fourth grade" is certainly one of God's children, especially at heart.

May God wrap you in the warmth and tenderness of his...

So sorry to lose Doug. Looking at his smiling face in the photo I find myself smiling back and hearing, from far away, that contagious cackle of a laugh. What a great guy!

Dad... your creative and honest approach to life will be missed. You will live on in me and all others who you touched with your teaching and wisdom.
