Womble Funeral Home - Charleston Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of 82 year old Dr. Stuart Graham Denman, Jr,  DVM, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Doc, as as all who knew  him, was born to Stuart Graham Denman Sr. and Joyce Hewlett. From a young age, he displayed a love for animals and a curiosity for the world around him. He attended primary school and graduated from  East Tallahatchie High School, later pursuing higher education at Mississippi State University before  earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University.

Doc dedicated his life to the care of animals, serving as a large and small animal veterinarian  and the owner of Denman Animal Clinics in Charleston and Water Valley, Mississippi. His expertise,  gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication earned him the respect and trust of countless families in the  community. He was known for his kindness, his willingness to help anyone in need, and his ability to  bring comfort to both animals and their owners.

He was a devoted family man, survived by his daughter, Ann Reynolds, Eddie Reynolds, and  their children, Jimmy Fly and his wife, Mary Fly (with their son, Denman Fly), and Will Reynolds and  his wife, Katie Hutto (with their daughters, McKarley Reynolds and Morgan Ellis Reynolds), and Leanna Reynolds-Hood and husband Tucker Hood (with their daughter Reynolds Edie Hood); his  daughter, Susan Denman, George Borg, along with their children, George Matthew Borg, Michelle  Jeanette Borg, and Jack Denman Borg; his son, Joe Coker Denman, and his wife, Dee Denman, and  their children, Blakely Denman and Gus Denman; his daughter, Rena Denman Montgomery, and her  husband, Michael Montgomery, and their children, Madison Montgomery and Luke Montgomery; his  grandchildren, Brexton Denman (and his wife Mackenzie, with their son, Walker James Denman), Joey Denman, and Stuart Graham Denman, IV (with his children, Stuart Graham Denman, V and  Emmerence Weaver). He is also survived by Randy Cook, Beth Cook, Jami Cook, Martha Lloyd,  Darren Lloyd, Lincoln Lloyd, Riley Kate Lloyd, and Ellie Lloyd.

He was preceded in death by his father, Stuart Graham Denman, Sr, his mother, Joyce Hewlett,  his beloved wife, Judy Coker Denman, and his son, Stuart Graham Denman, III.  Beyond his professional and family life, Doc was a man of many passions. He loved hog  hunting with knives, rifle hunting for deer, playing cards, and was an avid cook. His culinary expertise  was questionable at times, but no one went hungry in his presence. Some of his best hits included;  Mississippi Flippin’ chicken, Tallahatchie Slop Sauce, corny cornbread, smoked bologna disguised as  exotic meats, and his personal favorite, organs and unconventional cuts from the animals he harvested.  He found joy in restoring old vehicles, supporting the education of the youth, watching  Mississippi State football, water skiing, and pulling harmless pranks. Among his honors; he was a  patent holding inventor, a C.A.R.E Legend, a rescue diver, the founder of the National Doghorn  Association, a major proponent of Camp Lakeside, and a founding member and life-long supporter of  Strider Academy. His sense of humor and generosity made every gathering brighter and every memory  sweeter.

A man of faith, Doc was a dedicated member of Cowart Baptist Church, where he found  fellowship and spiritual nourishment. He was active in his community, always ready to lend a helping  hand or share his wisdom with others.

A celebration of Stuart's life will be held at Cowart Baptist Church on Saturday, July 12th, 2025  with Visitation from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and the funeral service beginning at 4:00 pm. The interment will follow at Charleston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to  Cowart Baptist Church and Camp Lakeside in his honor.

Doc’s legacy of compassion, integrity, and healing will live on in the hearts of all who knew  him, and his memory will be cherished always.

Not sure what to say?

So sorry to hear about his passing. I always enjoyed visiting with him (and Mrs. Denman) when I worked in animal pharma. Both were very special people & a joy to visit with.

Stuart was a good friend and colleague!! He will be missed.

Forty-five years ago, I met one of the finest men in the world. I had just married into the family in May, moved to Mississippi, and knew very few people and even fewer of my new family members. I'll remember the first family reunion I attended at the "country house" of Stuart and Judy. Doc searched me out, grabbed me in a big teddy bear hug and said "Welcome to the family, darling". That was the beginning of a friendship I'll treasure the rest of my days. From deep discussions on the...

Doc took care of my two babies and eased them over the rainbow bridge. Cremated my Molly and gave me her ashes. She will be buried with me. He was a gentle man. If pets are in Heaven, he is surrounded by them now.

I did relief work for Dr. Denman when I was a younger veterinarian just getting started in my career. He was a kind and gentle soul. Rest easy old friend, you will be missed by many. May God's lasting peace be with his family and all who loved him.

I will always praise him for taking care of Buddy. He was so kind to cremeate him. A very caring Dr.

Dr. Denman was an excellent Veterinarian and a good colleague. He will be missed. Prayers for the family.

He was a fine man, and represented our profession well!

Dr. Denman loved the Mississippi Private School Association (now the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools). It was an honor to have him serve on our board of directors for so many years. Doc, thanks for all of your heartfelt love, not only for Strider Academy, but also for the entire association.
