Dr. Martin Leverette Greer Jr. of Garfield, Arkansas, age 84, passed away January 2, 2024. He was a member of the Garfield Church of Christ. He graduated from Harding Academy in 1957, earned his BA from the University of the Ozarks in 1965, his Master’s from Northeastern State University in 1975, and his Doctorate from the University of Arkansas in 1979.


He was an educator and administrator, having taught K-12 and college classes, including reading, math, science, history, and most notably art for forty-two years in areas including Rogers, Van Buren, Alma, Ft. Smith, AR, Waynesville, NC, and Sallisaw, OK.


He was involved in starting Metro Christian School in Ft. Smith, AR, a state-accredited school, serving as principal for the first three years in its eighteen years of existence. Later, he was principal of Knoxville Christian School in TN. Then from 2001-2004 he taught art K-12 in Purdy, MO, serving as preacher of Exeter Church of Christ at that time.


He was born in the candy trade, and almost always worked at least two jobs at once. In 2001, he founded Martin Greer’s Candies of Garfield, AR with his late wife Jeanette Greer, and his sons Uriah Greer and Joshua Wacker who continue the business to this day.


He was a passionate supporter of mission work in the Philippines, raising support and sending earnings to help many impoverished people and churches of Christ for thirty-two years.


He was preceded in death by parents, Martin Leverette Greer, Sr., and Betty Edith Brewer; by his wife, Jeanette Maravilla Greer. He is survived by his brother, Tommy L. Greer and his children, Katrina Roseboom, Sheleigh Whitesell, Beth Hutchenson, Martin L. Greer III, Marta L. Fischer, Uriah M. Greer, and Joshua M. Wacker.


No Visitation. Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Garfield Church of Christ. His body will be laid to rest at Ruddick Cemetery of Garfield. Arrangements are by Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge.

I had the pleasure of having Mr. Martin Greer as my 10th, 11th and 12th years as my Art teacher at Van Buren High School. I'm so sorry to hear that he has passed. He was a wonderful teacher and person.
