Veteran New Jersey reporter Dunstan McNichol, who could mine journalistic gold from the dry pages of proposed regulations and bond prospectuses, died suddenly at his Ewing home on Tuesday. He was 54. Known to his friends and colleagues as Dusty, Mr. McNichol covered the State House for The...

Not sure what to say?

I did not find out about Andrew's passing until December 2015 at the OLA (Our Lady of the Assumption School) reunion at the Primavera Restaurant in Wayne, PA. I attended OLA & Devon Prep way back when with Andrew and he was a close friend. We lost touch during our college years and the last I heard of him from what I recall was when he was in Kansas City as a reporter. I spend many childhood days playing sports with Andrew, riding bikes, serving together as altar boys, and staying over at his...

I was privileged to start my career working alongside Dusty at The Herald-News. He was a special talent and a wonderful person and he will be greatly missed.

I worked, lived, and played with Dusty in Kansas City while we both worked at the KC Star. Like so many others who have lives have been touched by him, I am honored to have known him.

I broke into the business under the helpful tutelage of Dusty at The KC Star. I can only say that he was one of the nicest, kindest, most genuine people I ever met. His loss triggers so many memories, all of them pleasant. He was just a damn good guy.

To Michelle and Jake,
We hold you in our thoughts and prayers as you grieve your dear husband/father. We remember Dusty's sweet, low-keyed way, his running through Glendale with very well-worn sneakers, the amazing chili on New Years Day, and watching the Ewing 4th of July parade with the 3 of you at the end of Greenway.
Love, Peter, Mary, Bailey, and Lucy Van Ellis

My condolences to Michelle, Jake, and the rest of Dusty's family.

Although Dusty and I did not stay in touch for long past college, my memories of him have remained vivid. He was consistently kind and had an outrageous sense of humor. He was largely immune to others' opinions, as evidenced by his wearing everywhere a baby-sized sneaker attached to his belt for all of senior year. Someone had given him the pair as a joke about his size, but Dusty simply rolled with it. I think he...

'He was great amongst men and will be remembered. In fact, his accomplishments made us men seem like mere mice. Everyone who knew him will re-think their lives. And wonder what they've done with what they've had. And probably regret. And maybe do so much more with what they have left.'
