Earl R. Halterman, Jr., aged 89, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on June 12, 1935, Earl was known for his loving, humble, and hard-working nature.
Earl proudly served in the Navy Reserves for four years before joining the Army, where he dedicated another five years of service. His commitment to hard work also led to a flourishing career. Earl worked tirelessly from the ground up at Scott's Home and Garden Centers, eventually leading him to the position of President and CEO. He even liked the smell of fresh-cut wood as he walked down the aisles, a testament to his love for the work.
Beyond his professional and military life, Earl was a lover of boating and fishing and tinkering with small projects at home. He enjoyed traveling and cherished family vacations. Earl always appreciated good food, great football and baseball. In his senior years, he took up golf and spent quality time listening to and sharing moments with his grandson, Hank.
Earl is survived by his daughters Leslie Halterman and Karen Whitehouse (David); brother, Cam Halterman; half-sister, Hildi MacLean; grandson, Hank Whitehouse; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Early Halterman; mother, Stella Wimer; and previous wife, Linda Halterman.
A service to honor Earl and Linda’s lives will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 2 PM at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy, Bowie, Md., 20715.
