McCormick & Son Mortuaries and Crematory Obituary

Eddie Warren Collins - Born May 10, 1926 - Heaven Bound - January 16, 2014 Eddie was a beloved Husband, Brother, Father of two, Uncle, Grandfather of two, Great-Grandfather of one. He was born May 10, 1926 in Hebron, Missouri, the second of five children. He graduated from Cabool High School in Missouri, has a BA from San Francisco State University and a Masters Degree from USC. He was married to Velma Coatney for 65 years. World War II was nearing the end when Eddie was drafted at age 18 into the Army. After Basic Training, Eddie was sent overseas to Europe and ultimately transferred into the 10th Mountain Division in Italy. The Germans were deeply entrenched on the tops of the cliffs and were so guarded that the only way to get access to them was straight up the cliffs. They lost a lot and men on these missions and as a result, his group was trained as the next replacement group. He served in Italy until the war ended. Anyone who knew Eddie-knew how proud he was of his service to his country. Eddie was passionate about hunting and especially fishing. He took his son and then later his grandson to Bishop every year and they always came home with their limit. We suspect much more than their limit…. He loved Music, took vocal lessons all through High School and College and sang in choirs, was in a Hillbilly Band where he played the banjo and did solos until his lung problems caused him to stop. As the kids were growing up, you could here him on many occasions playing our family piano beautifully by ear – No music to be found on the stand. Eddie spent 40 years in Education, was a stellar and highly respected Teacher and School Administrator. He loved his work and was respected by teachers, peers, parents and students as well. He planned, started and supervised a school at Lakewood First Baptist on his own time. As successful as he was in his career and regardless of his dedication to his church, he always found time to help his children with their homework, devoted time to their interests, whether it was hunting, fishing, clothes shopping, choir performances, recitals, modeling fashion shows, or any of their special extracurricular activities. He will be sorely missed...by many. He is survived by his loving and dedicated Wife, Velma, Son Bruce and Wife Pam, Daughter Corinne, his Grandson Keith and Wife, Noelle, and Great Granddaughter Haven, and his Grandson Cole. He has one surviving sibling, his Sister, Linda Gooch and Husband Tom and their Son Mike and one Cousin Loetta White. In addition, he is survived by Nephews Don Coatney and Wife Joann, Mike Coatney, Stephen Coatney, Willie Wagner, and his wife Joanne and Greg Collins. Favorite Bible verse: I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor things present, nor things to come, nor any other thing can separate us from the love of God, which is in Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38,39 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
