EDMOND FOLEY Obituary

March 31, 1928 - October 5, 2017 NORMAN Edmond Leo Foley, 89, passed away at his home in Norman, OK Oct. 5, surrounded by his friends and family. Ed was born on March 31, 1928, in West Union, IA, where he grew up on a rural farm. In 1945, he graduated from Postville High School and following graduation, enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. While in service, he was stationed in Fairbanks, AK; El Paso, TX; and Salina, KS. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1949. Upon his return from Fairbanks, he met his wife, Barbara Jean Cook, of Wichita, KS. They were married at St. Mary's Cathedral in Wichita Nov. 25, 1949. They have been happily married for 67 years. While living in Wichita, he worked for the Wichita Eagle and Wichita Beacon Newspapers. In 1960, the Oklahoma Publishing Company offered Ed a job in the circulation department. During his employment with the Oklahoman, the family moved to Altus, Duncan, and then in 1964, upon Ed's promotion to zone manager, he moved his family to Oklahoma City. After being employed with the Oklahoma Publishing Company for 25 years, he retired in 1986. Ed was a member of the St. Thomas More University Parish. At St. Thomas More, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Prime Timers as well as other groups within the church. Ed took great pride in his family and his home. He was known as a man who could build and repair. He and his wife, Barbara, enjoyed traveling, not only within the United States, but abroad. Ed was an avid golfer who took pride in walking the course into his 80s. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Kathryn Tillman Foley; and infant son, James Michael Foley. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Foley, of the home; Linda (Foley) and James Fields, Steve and Dawnette (Bennett) Foley, both of Norman, OK; Rick and Sheila Foley, of Tuttle, OK; and Dan and Sherri Foley, of Fort Collins, CO. Ed has seven grandchildren, Justin and Kristine Fields, of Norman, OK; Matthew and Megan Fields, of San Diego, CA; Randy Fields, of Norman, OK; Vanessa (Fields) and Matt Long, of Lighthouse Point, FL; Nathan Thomas Foley, of Denver, CO; Stuart Daniel Foley, of Lancaster, PA; and John Foley, of Burns Flat, OK; as well as three great-grandchildren, Addison, Beckett, and Tanner Fields, of Norman, OK. He is also survived by his sisters, Millie Colvin Martin, of Cedar Falls, IA; and Eileen Lanaghan, of Los Angeles, CA. Rosary will be held at St. Thomas More University Parish on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. and the Funeral Mass Oct. 10 at 10 a.m., presided by Father James Goins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thomas More University Parish - Our Faith Our Future Building Fund. Arrangements are entrusted to Primrose Funeral Service, Norman, OK.
