Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home - Westchester Obituary

Edward C. Hosty, age 50, of Chicago, formerly of River Forest passed away peacefully on October 25th after a brave battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Laura (Lassandro) Hosty. Loving father of Edward, Jr. (EJ), Francesco (Frankie), and William Hosty. Devoted son of Susan (Cox) and the late Thomas Edward Hosty III. Dear brother of Thomas E. IV (Kathleen) Hosty, Joan (Michael) Beacom, Luke Hosty, Susan Hosty, and former sister-in-law, Kathleen Hosty. Wonderful son-in-law of the late Ross and Loretta Lassandro and brother-in-law of Aaron Lassandro and the late Tony Lassandro. Amazing uncle of Hannah, Eileen, Tommy, and Emmett Hosty; Mary Helen, Mike, Dave, and Grace Beacom; Luke, Cici, and Claire Hosty; and Aries Lassandro.

Ed graduated from St. Luke School, a proud Bearcat of the Class of '88.  He graduated from Fenwick High School in 1992 and was proud to see his sons become the fourth generation in his family to attend Fenwick. Ed was a talented athlete whose journey began at St. Luke and Fenwick, he went on to play basketball (1 year) and football (4 years) at Princeton, graduating with the Class of '96.  A loyal friend, he was deeply loved and appreciated by many, who gathered to visit him in his final months.  A passionate Bears, White Sox, and Blackhawks fan, attending many games over the years.  Ed’s greatest pride was in his boys. He loved nothing more than cheering them on from the sidelines, often with an enthusiastic shout, and coaching them during their younger years. Watching them play brought him a deep sense of pride and purpose.

Ed loved hosting gatherings for friends and family, with a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome.  He was a phenomenal chef whether it be the perfectly cooked beef tenderloin, Cox family dip, Juicy Lucy Burgers or learning Italian traditions such as seven fishes or sugo from Aunt Marilyn. His famous vodka/lemonades for Lincoln Ave Fest were a crowd favorite.  He pursued every endeavor with integrity and unwavering dedication, achieving excellence in all he undertook.

Not sure what to say?

To the Hosty family, I am so very sorry for this huge loss. I taught Ed at St. Luke and he was what every teacher dreams of , so smart , kind and just so much fun. I have great memories of Ed that will last forever.

Condolences to the Hosty family.

My most heartfelt thoughts and prayers go to the entire Hosty family.

Ed was my brother for as long as I can remember. I have such incredible memories growing up with Ed at all our family get togethers in River Forest and the Hosty compound in Michigan (with those crazy stairs leading down to the lake!). Whether we are talking about our time together at St. Lukes, Fenwick, Wrigley Field, or the countless endeavors in the city; it was always memorable thanks to Ed's booming...

I am so sorry for your loss. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family . I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I knew Ed at Princeton. He was simply larger than life, and his boundless energy was felt and enjoyed by all. There are no words to properly express the sentiment, but I would like to share my deep condolences for all who knew and loved this great man.

I was dorm neighbours with Ed as a freshman and he immediately treated this shy awkward little Canadian like a friend. Ed’s enthusiasm was infectious and boundless. No one was more loyal and no one enjoyed life more. My sadness to learn of his passing is tempered only by joy at reading of his family. Ed is irreplaceable and I will always remember him fondly.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Ed. Thinking of you all!

Sue, Sandy and I send our prayers and condolences. May your boy RIP.
