Thinking good thoughts and memories of Eileen. An integral part of my life, she, Sam and Geri were my critics - which made me a better person and nurse. I miss them all. I am sure Elise, Eric and family members miss them too. We miss Sam as well. They were surely a team.

I met Eileen Harte in a very different way than most other people did. Right after I got my CNA during high school, I started working at Poet's Walk (now Morningside House of Fredericksburg) - the memory care facility where she spent her final days. She was one of the first residents I met and learned to take care of. She rarely spoke, but I sensed a gentle kindness about her that I wish I'd been able to know outside of her situation. During her last days, I often sat by her bed, held her hand, and sang to her at the end of my shift so that she would not be alone. She taught me so much without even speaking. I think of her often, even as I was thinking of her today. Rest in peace, sweet Eileen.

This reminder popped up today. Such a pleasure working with Eileen and Sam in home care on Long Island. I first started with Eileen doing private duty at the registry. I began doing consulting in home care for those wanting to get licensed by the NY Department of Health. Eileen and Sam (and Geri!) were my third clients. We spent many years after as members of the company's QA Committee. A pleasure working with and for Eileen and Sam, I will never forget them. I will never forget Elise's name because Eileen always reminded me of her daughter's name.

Eileen was nothing short of one of the best nurses and administrators I've ever met. I am the person who wrote Eileen, Sam and Geri's home care application in New York, then the policies and procedures to get the agency licensed by the NY State DOH. Eileen and Sam also ran a registry, staffing private cases in nearby hospitals and nursing homes. I also worked as one of her home care nurses, and for the private duty registry. I was a member of the Quality Assurance Committee, which met quarterly. Geri, Sam and Eileen were great mentors and teachers to new staff and old. Last time I spoke with Eileen was shortly after Sam's death. Grateful to be near family, she told me of her health woes. Facing "the unknown" was a concern for her, but not a worry. She knew she would always be in good hands with her family. Grateful to have known her.
