Not sure what to say?

Mr. Alfrey was one of my favorite teachers in H.S. He inspired a lot of his students in his love of history.

I was sorry to learn of the passing of Coach Alfrey. I was a member of his last GI American Legion team in the late 50's. I remember him as a very good coach who was highly respected by all of his players. He had a very effective manner in handling young people. I wish I had had the opportunity to have been a student in one of history classes...My condolences to the entire Alfrey family.

GIHS Class of l962

I never had Mr. Alfrey as a teacher or a coach, but remember him as a respected man in both endeavors.I know my friend Bob Hanna played for him at GIHS as well as alot of my other friends who were athletes. I was his paperboy in 1954, on 18th or 19th St in GI. Jack Hughes Class of "57 St Joseph Mo.

Mr. Alfrey classes, especially WWII, nurtured my interst in history which became one of my college majors. I am pleased I was able to talk with him at our GIHS reunion.

I posted a message above annd somehow forgot to add my name and e-mail address. So I'm adding this additional comment. Bert Alfrey was a one of a kind individual, who served as a proper role model for many of us. He took care and shepparded me when I served as the batboy for his early American Legion Midget and Jr. teams. Later I played for him at GIHS basketball teams and also on his American Legion Midget and Jr. teams. He was a Special Individual, who was a tremendous role model for...

I was a basketball student manager under Coach Alfrey at Grand Island Senior High as well as one of his students. He was a very fine teacher and excellent coach. I was very happy to see him attend the class of 1960 50 year class reunion in 2010. His memory of past games was marvelous. We were lucky to have him as a teacher.

Possibly my favorite teacher of all. Developed my love of history from his class and went on to minor in college. The profession certainly needs more like him. So sorry to hear of his passing.

I served as his batboy in the early 1950s, played baseball and basketball on his American Legion and GIHS teams in the late 1950s and considered him to be one of the finest coaches, gentleman and role models a boy could have. He'll be soely missed.

So sorry to read of the loss of Bert. I remember him from his GI days and working with my mom and dad, Bud & Irene Feaster. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
