Elizabeth Martin Obituary

Elizabeth Anderson Martin
07/27/1942 - 05/24/2023
Elizabeth Carroll Anderson Martin passed away on Wednesday, the 24th of May 2023 in Austin, Texas.
Elizabeth "Betsey" was born on the 27th of July 27 1942, in Houston, Texas to parents Dillon Anderson and Lena Carter Carroll Anderson. She attended St Johns School and Texas Tech University where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority.
On the 31st of July 1965, Betsey married Ronald Engel Martin. Betsey and Ronnie had two daughters, Holley and Catherine. Betsey was a member of the Junior League of Houston, the Alter Guild at St. Martin's Church, the Houston Country Club and the Bayou Club.
Though a lifelong resident of Houston Betsey was most at home in the country. As a little girl Betsey spent much of her time in her family's country home in Camden, TX with her beloved grandmother, Damie. It was there that her lifelong love of cooking began. Anyone who has ever eaten at Betsey's table can attest that her culinary talents as well as the portions were nothing short of legendary.
Aside from her family and cooking Betsey's other great love was raising Beefmaster cattle with Ronnie at their ranch in Independence, Texas. She was a lifetime member of the Beefmaster Breeders United and was widely recognized for the quality of her cattle that often topped the BBU sales.
Betsey was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Ronnie Martin; her daughters, Holley Martin Boyd and husband Lee Boyd, and Catherine Anderson Martin; her grandchildren, Catherine Carter Boyd and Cameron Crockett Boyd; her sisters, Susan Anderson Whiteford and Jill Anderson Kyle and husband Jerry V Kyle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to her wonderful caregivers Clara Showalter and Jane Gordon.
A memorial service is to be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 12th of June, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Bagby Parish Hall.
Prior to the service, the family will gather for a private interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Betsey's honor may be directed to Suncrest Hospice, 9020 Capital of Texas Highway, Building 2, Suite 225, Austin, TX 78759 or St Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, TX 77056 or at https://stmartinsepiscopal.org/honorariumsmemorials/

Betsy and I met at SJS at ages 3 & 4. Our class of '60 was the only one that had pre-K. We called it Nursery School. When she would spend the night with me, she always got my parents to take us to Felix's Mexican for supper and we would dress alike and order the same cheese enchiladas and for dessert we'd get a Charm's Lollipop, and a Mexican Praline. She and I were the only two tomboys in our class. We both loved horses and Roy Rogers. Our children were in play group together, Holly, my Trey, Victoria Taylor and Blake Howe. I will miss her terribly.
