Not sure what to say?

We just celebrated the 100th birthday of my mom, Christie Schuetz, and spent a full evening reminiscing about favorite family memories. Memorial Day weekends at Pere Marquette arranged by Ellen McDowell were high on the list. If we live on through memories, Ellen will go on forever, remembered with love by countless friends and family.

Single Memorial Tree

I never met your mom, Peter, but she looked like a great and strong personnalité. I am sorry for your loss et vous souhaite du courage pour traverser ce chagrin, pensées amicales, Ariane et Lionel Sauvage.

Even though we hardly met, I´ve always felt close to the McDowell family, thanks to my friendship with Peter and wish to express my deepest sympathy after the loss of Ellen. I had the chance to meet most of the members long ago in Champaign when visiting from France and saw the tribe again with great pleasure and emotion recently in Jimmy in Saigon. I was particularly moved by the intimate portrait of Ellen in Peter´s film which shows that this beautiful and dignified lady obviously led...

Our whole family benefitted from the close friendship between Ellen and my mother, Shirlee, and we looked forward to the McDowell family's annual end-of-summer visit to our home in Michigan. My sincere condolences to her children on the loss of their beautiful mother.

Rest In Forever Heavenly Peace Mrs Ellen

One of my fondest childhood memories is from an annual trip to Pere Marquette. The McDowells and our family and at least another family or two would rent the lodge and cabins at the top every year over Memorial Day weekend. Ellen would round up the kids from our traipses and explorations all over the place and organize us into putting on a little musical in the lodge for the adults. So unexpected and wonderful for us kids. A cherished memory. Lovingly, Laura (Schuetz) Baker

Dear family and friends of Ellen, I write to share my condolences and the sympathies of all of us at Pax Christi USA at the loss of Ellen. We are so grateful for her commitment to peace and justice, especially her association with Pax Christi, and we give thanks for her life and her witness. In reading Ellen's obituary, I was touched by several intersections I have with her personally: I too was influence greatly by Dorothy Day (although through her writings), starting a Catholic Worker House...

My mother, Shirlee Broihier was a longtime friend of Ellen´s and we all grew up witnessing the loving, respectful and fun friendship they had over the years. Condolences to the family.
