Emil "Gary" M Carlo

CARLO, Emil M. "Gary" – 85, of Scituate passed away October 17, 2014, with his family by his side.

He was the beloved husband of Joan E. (Tarricone) Carlo for 56 years. Devoted father of Regina Church and her husband Andrew of Cazenovia, NY and Selene Carlo-Eymer and her husband Douglas of Cohasset, MA. Cherished grandfather of Foster, Gerrit, Bryce, Taggart and Rebecca. He was predeceased by 5 siblings.

Born in Yonkers, NY and lived in Mamaroneck, NY for much of his life, Gary was the quintessential New Yorker. Not only did he know every shortcut between his suburban home and the Big Apple's core, he was also familiar with a plethora of tiny ethnic restaurants, as well as neighborhood espresso and pastry shops. On weekends, he could be found at Coveleigh Club, in Rye, NY–where he was an avid tennis player and champion lawn bowler. In the mid-90s, following a successful career as a Director of Operations in the corporate and medical fields, Gary and Joan retired to Scituate's Minot neighborhood, located within close proximity to their grandchildren and grandnieces. "Gary" and "Dad," was soon replaced with "Gram-pa-Daddy" and later simply "Grampy". In his new home, he soon transitioned from Knickerbocker to Celtic fan, played golf whenever possible, travelled the world, and habitually calmed his voracious appetite for reading. In his post-retirement role, as Veterans' Administrator for the Town of Scituate, he made use of his own vast Navy experiences–including seeing much of the world from the flight deck of the aircraft carrier Roosevelt; to assist fellow service members and families as they navigated through the challenges of post-military life. He was a 'people person'. His thoughtful words, warm smile and clever wit, made an incredible impact on so many lives. Gary was a truly valued member of both his family and his community.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 29, 11:00 AM, at St. Anthony's Parish in Cohasset, MA.
