JOE JACKSON HEIGHTS CHAPEL Obituary


Mrs. Emma G. Aréchiga died peacefully on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at McCullough Hall in San Antonio.  She was born in Laredo, Texas, on May 21, 1926, and was preceded in death by her parents, José and Sofia Garza; spouse, Dr. Domingo Aréchiga; siblings: José “Pepe” Garza (Estela), Maria Elena “Nena” De La Garza (Fausto), Roy Garza and Rudy Garza. 


She is survived by her three children:  Jo Emma Aréchiga, Corpus Christi, Rev. Dennis D. Aréchiga, San Antonio and Alberto D. Aréchiga, Austin.  She is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Irma and Sylvia Garza, two special second cousins: Jorge Juarez and Alisa Jo Juarez and numerous nephews and nieces.


A woman of great poise and faith, she worked for 64 years for the Horace Hall Sr., Jr. and Associates Law Firm.  She is a member of the Laredo Women’s Hall of Fame, supported her husband Dr. Domingo Aréchiga, former President of the Laredo Junior College, in charitable fundraisers for the Junior College and was extremely active in her home parish, Blessed Sacrament Parish by serving on the Pastoral Council, School Council, Choir, and as a Lector. 


For many years she and Domingo organized the singular marriage preparation program for the entire Catholic Community of Laredo, Pre-Cana. 


The family will receive condolences in San Antonio on Saturday, February 27,  at the Sacred Heart Conventual Chapel at Our Lady of the Lake Convent (Our Lady of the Lake University), from Noon to 3 p.m. with a Rosary at 1:30 p.m. 


In Laredo, the Visitation will take place on Sunday, Feb. 28th, at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapel, 719 Loring at Cortez, Laredo, TX 70840, from 5 to 9 p.m.; including a Vigil/Rosary at 5 pm and 7 p.m. 


Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, Feb. 29th at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  We kindly ask those attending to meet at the church.


Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
