HAW RIVER - Emma Jean Vanhook, 62 transitioned on August 4, 2020 at her residence. She was the daughter of Roger Adam Torain and Pattie Sue Dillehay Torain.

Emma was employed at Wal-Mart as a stocker. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, crafting and sewing. She loved her grandkids and enjoyed helping others. She had a big heart. She would often do for others before doing for herself.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her children: Christopher Vanhook (Thyda) of California, Kathy Vanhook (Basim) and Chandra Vanhook (Donnie) both of Burlington; her mother: Patty Sue Torain; siblings: Wilbert Torain of Mebane, Robert Torain of Prospect hill, Thomas "Buck" Torain of Haw River, Abraham Torain of Prospect Hill and Catherine Moore of Burlington; five grandchildren, a special friend: Bobby Vanhook and a host of relatives, family and friends.

You may sign the guestbook from 10am-6pm on Saturday, August 8, 2020 in the Mary Blackwell Chapel of Blackwell Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent to blackwellfuneral.com. Services entrusted to Blackwell Funeral Home.

Not sure what to say?

Praying that God will comfort and strengthen you during this difficult time. Emma and I were childhood friends at Sweet Gum Elementary School. She was such a kind and loving person. I will cherish memories of our times together. God bless each of you.
