Erlenn "Ras" Erwin Rasmussen, born on August 1, 1928 in Crocker, South Dakota, to the late Orphie and the late Oscar, passed away at age 90 on July 3, 2019 in Sun City West, Arizona. He graduated from Bradley High South Dakota. Erlenn served in the Marine Corps at the age of 17 from 1945 to 1946. After his honorable discharge he went to meat cutting school & worked at the Red Owl Meat Dept. in Pierre & Watertown SD. He married Marion E Hemmingson on October 17, 1948. In 1949 he started to work for Swift & Co. and worked there for 18 years. He was part owner at Hub City Livestock in Aberdeen for 10 years & part owner in Loken Livestock in Watertown. He did order Cattle buying for Jerry Braun for 2 years. In 1979 he moved his family (wife & daughter) to Dodge City KS & worked as a cattle buyer. In 1981 the moved to Sioux City IA where he was a supervisor at IBP & traveled 5 states until he retired in 2000 then he & his wife retired in Sun City West AZ. Erlenn was the loving husband of Marion. He is survived by his sons, Luther(Roberta) Loveland CO, Mark(Genny) Washingon MO, and Monte(Mary) Lincoln NE; daughters, Lynn(Mike) Sandvig Aberdeen SD and Tami(Joel) Konrad Geneva IL; brothers, Allen, Wessington Springs SD, Orland, Mendota Heights MN, and Elwin, Columbus OH; and sister, Elaine Blashill, Rapid City/Crocker SD, 12 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren & 4 step great grandchildren. Ras loved sports - played basketball in high school, after high school - softball, bowling, golf, hunting & fishing, in retirement he watched Diamondbacks baseball, Suns basketball, AZ Cardinals football, PGA championships & horse racing. He was an usher & on church council.
Preceded in death by parents & 2 half siblings Mildred & Benjamin, step granddaughter Abbey Schnell.
Donations in Ras's name to Sun City West Foundation are welcome and appreciated. Friends and family are welcome to attend the funeral service, officiated by Rev. Stephen Beyer, on Saturday, July 13 at 1:00 p.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 13724 W Meeker, Sun City West, Arizona, 85375.
