Ernesto Sanchez Obituary

Ernesto M. Sanchez, also known as "Neto," has gone home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was surrounded by family and passed quietly in his home on August 31, 2016. Ernest was born in Alpine, Texas on April 23, 1951 to Maria S. Lopez and raised by his step-father, Gregorio Lopez, Sr. In 1958, the Lopez family moved to Midland where Ernest was educated and met his high school sweetheart, Maria J. Sanchez. They later married and had three beautiful daughters. His hobbies included watching his beloved Cowboys play, golf, umpiring little league baseball, playing basketball with his nephews, and fishing. He retired from Midland Independent School District as a Head Custodian in 2011 and enjoyed spending time with his wife, and his best friends Johnny and Sandra Pineda. They all loved to travel and visit casinos out of state. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Maria B. Sanchez; his loving daughters, Lisa Sanchez of Midland, JoAnn Sanchez Garza (Albert) of Arlington, and Jessica Sanchez of Midland; his beloved grandchildren, Alberto Garza, Jr., Alyssa Garza, and Desmond Sanchez Hicks; his siblings, Joann Hernandez, Linda Sanchez (Larry), Susanna Sanchez, Edwardo Lopez (Cindy), and Connie Corrales (Jesse); and by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother, Maria S. Lopez; his step-father, Gregorio Lopez, Sr.; his brothers, Daniel O. Sanchez and Gregorio Lopez, Jr.; and his sister, Angelita Lopez. A rosary will take place at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral home on Monday, September 5, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. The family would like to express their gratitude for all the prayers and gifts of love during this difficult time. Mi Primo Neto was more than just a wonderful person. He was always so kind and considerate to everyone he crossed paths with. And, we know that his passing will not only leave a void in your lives, but in the hearts of all those who knew him.

I remember all the wonderful times when we crossed paths at family events while I was living at Midland.

As the healing process goes, remember the lovely big smile of Neto and the wonderful memories you have of him. Those are precious memories that will keep him alive in your heart para siempre.

I sent this to Jessica a few weeks ago, but it'd be a shame not to repeat this here:

I never had the pleasure of meeting your dad since I don't live in Texas. But, without ever having had a single conversation or meeting with him, I can vouch for how impressive of a man he was based on his daughters. We are a reflection of our parents, and never have I known a more fiercely loving group of siblings than you and your sisters, which means your dad's character and influence was outstanding. From the short time I met Lisa, to the entertaining stories I heard about JoAnn, these are shining examples of what having a great dad does for us.

I'm really sorry for your loss. But, if you can take solace in one thing it's that your dad (and mom of course) set you all up for greatness. And all you have to look to for evidence is you and sisters, your niece and nephew and your sweet little boy. Your dad left behind an unmatched legacy, and I've had undeniable proof for the last 17 years.
