Erven C. Rockwood

Holladay, UT-Erven C. Rockwood passed away on October 11, 2025, at the age of 94, at The Ridge Memory Care.

Erven was born on February 8, 1931, to Samuel Erven and Veda Crouch Rockwood in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Erven, known to many as Erv, attended East High School and obtained a B.S. in Banking and Finance from the University of Utah. He spent three years in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Erv's career spanned almost 30 years in the natural gas industry. He began working with Pacific Northwest Pipeline Corporation in 1957 and took early retirement as Staff Vice President of Marketing and Customer Relations in 1986 from Northwest Pipeline Corporation.

After his retirement, Erv embraced his love for skiing by joining the Snowbird Host Program at the start of the 1987-88 ski season, a job he enjoyed for many years.

Erv played many sports, including tennis and golf, where he got a hole-in-one. His true passion was skiing, which he did from a young age into his nineties. After a serious accident involving a tree and being airlifted to a trauma center, he still couldn't wait to return to the slopes.

On February 24, 1979, Erv married Ursula Christian Hofhine. Erv was a loving father to Ursula's two daughters, Melanie and Christine. He was especially close in his later years to his granddaughter Jessica. Jessica called him "Papa" and visited him frequently at The Ridge. He always had a smile for her.

Erv and Ursula had 46 happy years together. They were always there for one another. They enjoyed doing many things together, such as boating and camping at Lake Powell and river rafting with friends including a 14-day raft trip through the Grand Canyon. Erv and Ursula also enjoyed cruises to Alaska and Europe.

Erv was good at repairing and building things - skills he learned from his father. He was always willing to help his mother-in-law, Marge, with her many home repairs and even took care of her outdoor pool.

Erv is survived by his wife Ursula; stepdaughter Christine Hofhine (Larry Ford); and children Steven W. (Rebecca), Randall H., and Tracy L. Rockwood. He has six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth Harmon; mother-in-law, Marge S. Christian; sister-in-law, Helen E. Christian; and stepdaughter, Melanie Hofhine.

Erv wanted to be cremated and requested no services.
