Gabriele Citrigno Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 7, 2010.
Gabriel "Gabe" Falvo-Citrigno, born in Calabria, Italy, entered into rest peacefully on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the age of 76, after a prolonged illness, surrounded by his loving family. Gabe was predeceased by his parents Gabriele Falvo and Rosina Mirabelli, his adopted parents, Uncle Carmine Citrigno and Aunt Marietta Falvo, siblings Maria Lupia, Gino Ferraiuolo, Franca Cerenzia, all of Niagara Falls, Ontario. He is also survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Rossana, his mother in law Elena Iacomini, his loving children Marisa Banister, Gabe, Jr. and Sandra Citrigno, son in law Joe Banister, loving grandchildren Robert and Ryan Banister and many loving relatives and friends. Gabe lived a full life centered on family, friends and activities. He arrived in San Jose from Italy in 1952 and lived his entire life in the west San Jose area. Gabriel worked as a wine entrepreneur and merchandiser for such distinguished wineries in the Santa Clara Valley as San Martin and Filice Wineries and more recently the Weibel, Mirassou and Savannah Chanelle Wineries. Words often used to describe Gabe were friendly, positive, caring, honest and sensitive. He always treated others with dignity and respect. He was immensely proud of his Italian culture and his passions included Italian-American social groups such as the Peninsula Social Club of San Mateo and Figli Di Calabria Club of San Jose. A Rosary is scheduled for 7:00 pm, Thurs, June 10th, at Lima Family Chapel, 466 N Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara 95050 and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Fri, June 11th at St Lucy Catholic Church, 2350 Winchester Blvd, Campbell 95008 and interment at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery also on Friday.

My deepest condolences to all of Gabe's family for your loss. I will miss Gabe and especially our discussions about our times working together at San Martin Vineyards and his insistence that I see Italy before I settle down. It was excellent advice. Please excuse my absence from the funeral as I am in Washington, D.C. training for a deployment to Afghanistan. Best to all the family and God Bless.

This is from Gabe Jr's friend at work, Bill Savage -

I know from Gabe Jr that the world has suffered a great loss with Gabe's passing. I did not have the pleasure to know Gabe, but I feel blessed to have his son in my life, so Gabe was surely a man of great character and values, with a work ethic that most men could only admire.

My family's prayers are with you all during this difficult time, so trust in the Lord, that all who knew Him would not perish, but would have everlasting life. What a grand reunion it will be, when we all get to be where Gabe's at today.

God Bless you, family and friends of my good buddy's dad, and may your pain and sorrow be soothed by fond memories of good times with Gabe.

Our prayers are with you.

To our family in San Jose,
Although we are far apart know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers! I met Zio Gabriele once when he came down with Zia Rossana and Sandra for their 25th anniversary here to Niagara Falls. From what I remember he was a very kind man. My dad told us many stories about his brother and how much he loved him and due to unfortunate circumstances they were seperated but that never stopped him from always keeping in touch. Please accept my deepest condelences. He is now at peace.
All our love, Sara (Ferraiuolo) Carter and Family

Zio Gabe, you were such a wonderful, loving, caring, funny uncle and we will miss you so much. I know you are resting in peace and watching over us from above. Your loving family and relatives will keep you in our hearts forever and cherish our memories with you. God bless, Zio, and we'll be seeing each other again sometime in the future. We love you. Love, Carla and Tomaso
