1927 ~ 2020There are few "great" men who are born into this world. There are even fewer that are considered "great and noble." Garth A. Stephenson (1927-2020) was one of the latter. His life transcended even the most flowering words of adoration that have come from the minds of the greatest poets...

Not sure what to say?

I feel so blessed and privileged to have some of his blood running through my veins. I never heard Uncle Garth swear or say an ill word to anyone. I am so grateful for his example and kindness to me and our family.
I remember a year when my Dad and Uncle Garth were trying to harvest hay. The weather forecast was calling for rain on Monday, and my dad suggested that we bail hay on Sunday, and we did. At the end of the day, Uncle Garth came to me and said "I am so sorry for working...

I remember Garth not only as a wonderful Bishop but also as an outstanding speaker, teacher, counselor, scout leader, and as one of my father's closest friends. I also remember him as the father of Andy, one of my closest friends as I grew up in the Silver Spring Ward. I especially remember the guidance he gave me when he interviewed me in preparation from my mission; it was a great help to me as I dealt with a very serious challenge at the end of my first week in the field. He was without...

Garth was truly a great man. His life of service was exemplary, in and out of the Church. We served together for many years in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. My wife and I got better acquainted with him and his wife as we served together on the BYU Emeriti Alumni Board. He was humble and unassuming, but very thoughtful and astute. His quiet demeanor and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

I have so many happy memories of Garth and Mary, baseball games, firesides, and mountains of food. Back when we went to Sunday School in the morning and Sacrament meetings in the evenings I spent many "between meetings" in their home with my dear friend, their daughter, Diane. Diane probably thought we were just hanging out and having fun together, but much more was happening as I watched Garth and Mary interact with each other and with their kids. I learned so much about how to show love...

He always had a sweet smile and a kind word. I admired his love for his beautiful family.

always enjoyed conversing with Brother Stephenson when he came to Maryland to visit with his son Andy and daughter-in-law Carol. I will miss those opportunities to interact with this warm and friendly brother.

I hope you knew the very positive influence you had on your Grandson, Josh Hartman and that you would be proud to know that he has grown into a very kind, thoughtful and strong man thanks to you! In him you have left a legacy of goodness.

Our sympathy to the family as another great person passes through the veil into eternity. I truly found him to be a wonderful and loving and caring person. I served in the Baltimore Stake Presidency at the same time he served in the DC Stake and attended many meetings together back in those days and became good friends. We have always enjoyed our association with his children and were close friends to so many. We will always treasure our days with the Stephenson family. Love to all.

I knew and loved Garth and Mary. I will always remember them as friends. My condolences and love and prayers are sent to your family. I have known most of you as friends. Love to you,
