Not sure what to say?

Truly one of the best historical minds and teachers out there. He recognized a student who struggled with the rigors of higher education but had the mind to understand, pass the tests, and write papers. He took me under his wing for a year, I changed my major and school because of him. He always recognized me and knew my name when incidently running in to me. A great man and scholar. Thank you for worrying about a lowley undergrad. I now have two masters degrees and a rich...

Gary was one of the most sincere and courageous colleagues. He stood up for faculty members who needed help regardless of what this would do to his standing. That is called integrity. There should be more Gary Blumenshines in the academic world.

A great human being like Gary Blumenshine will never be forgotten

Gary - your memory of our high school is still being shared among those still here. Soon, we will be joining you and we will have our own reunion without pain - without grief - without sadness, I pray!! Rest and be happy to be back with you loved ones (wife, parents, etc.). My sister is having her 60th reunion and her memory is gone. It is so sad - to see what is and has happened to her. But we do grocery shop (Mariano's) - our old Wheaton High School is now a great grocery store. Shine...

As a history major at IPFW during the 90s, I took several of Dr. Blumenshine's courses. To say he was a challenging professor is an understatement, but his lectures and energy were extremely motivating. Gary brought out the best in his students. He will be extremely missed. My thoughts and prayers to the Blumenshine family, and may Dr. Blumenshine be at everlasting peace with his wife.

Gary and I were colleagues in Arts and Sciences for over 30 years at IPFW. In addition to being a terrific colleague who cared deeply for the well-being of the university, he was a good friend and source of stimulating intellectual conversation on almost any topic. Sadly, retirement separated us geographically and I have missed my interactions with him. Encomiums to a life well lived.

Gary was a wonderful colleague. I was in awe of his vast knowledge, especially in the field of classical music. He was interested in everything, far beyond his chosen field. I know his students admired him greatly, so did I.
Ruhe sanft!

RIP Gary - you will be missed by many.

Gary is now with wife Linda and will not be attending our 55th high school reunion. He came to the 50th and wrote me the sweetest note after. My sincere condolences to his family. Classmate Barb Rehs, Wheaton, IL.
