Geneva Dawson Hensley Geneva Dawson Hensley, 74, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 29, 1938, in Altavista, Virginia, to the late Wesley H. Dawson and Ethel D. Castle. She was also preceded in death by the father of her children and dear friend, Franklin D. Hensley; and her brother, Earl L. Castle. She is survived by her devoted children, daughter Velida H. Tyree and husband, David, of Keswick; sons, Bruce Hensley and wife, Kathy, of Gordonsville, Lance Hensley and Rhonda Thompson of McLean, Kevin Hensley and wife, Diane, of Ivy; grandchildren, Sarah Whitley and husband, David, Luke Hensley, Nathan Hensley, Erika Ward and husband, David, Kevin R. Hensley and Kyle Hensley; and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind special friend, William H. Dorsey and furry companion, Prissy. She was a devoted employee of the Charlottesville City school system retiring with 30 years of service. She was an active member of First Christian Church of Keswick. The family would like to thank Dr. William Hammond and Hospice of the Piedmont with a special thanks to hospice nurse Christine Rogoskey for their care. Per her wishes, funeral services will be private for family. A celebration of her life gathering will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911, Friends may send condolences to the family at

I apologize for this entry being so late. I just learned of your mom's death. I know what a special lady she was...I have some great memories of her from my teenage years. this is for the hensley famley I'm so sorry for your loss at this time my thoughs and prayers go out to each one of you, but you know now she not suffering anymore shes up their with her love ones and having a good oldtime again laughing like she used to .but she is still watching you like and angel she see everything you do down here so you better becareful. but she will always be missed by her friends.

I will always think of Geneva as my second mom, as she always treated me as part of the family. I loved her greatly. I know she was loved by her children and will be missed.
