George Klein

1935 - 2019 (Age 83)

George Klein was a Memphis radio DJ and television host, and Elvis Presley's best friend. Klein and Presley met while they were attending Humes High School in Memphis and became lifelong friends. While Presley achieved international fame as a musician, Klein helped spread the word about rock and roll on WHBQ radio and on Memphis TV's "Talent Party" program. But the two remained close: Each man served as best man at the other's wedding, and Klein was a pallbearer at Presley's funeral. Presley nicknamed his friend "GK," and that nickname led to Klein's DJ moniker, "The Geeker," used even in recent years on his Sirius XM show, "Elvis Time." A fixture of the Memphis music scene with a 64-year career on the city's airwaves, Klein was a member of the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame.

Not sure what to say?

I think of GK so often. I was a WHBQ Cutie on GK'S Talent Party... I Miss You So... Rest In Peace my friend..

Fridays are NOT the same on Sirius Radio 19. George kept the Elvis flame alive. Rest in peace. You and the King can go over old times.

Cousin Bob Fine in Chicago, rest in peace.

George was my casino host at the horseshoe in tunica for 10 years. it turned out as an avid basketball enthusiast he was a loyal supporter of my brother during his years as head basketball coach at Michigan. so we talked b-ball endlessly and became very close friends. in life,i have met few people as genuine and caring as gk. we will all miss him.

You lead by example what friendship is all about. You were a tremendous talent that will never be replaced. Please say Hi to Elvis. we will continue listening to the music and think of you both.

Gods speed George! You are finally with your best friend - Elvis!

Met George at Graceland---very kind and gracious to come out and visit with us--this was 4 years ago. Truly a brilliant person with a memory beyond my wildest ---Rest in Peace GK

I will miss hearing him talk about all the friendships of people he knew in rock n roll. He was a treasure. I know he is with his friend Elvis. God Bless him.

So sad I just found out GK died. A lot of wonderful memories and stories of Elvis died too.
