Geraldine Cernik Ballard age 93, passed away October 5, 2019. She was born April 3, 1926 in Omaha, Nebraska to Lewis Cernik and Frances Cernik. Geraldine was educated in Nebraska until the 2nd semester of her senior year. Moving with her parents in 1943 to Defuniak Springs, Florida. Where she graduated from Walton High School in 1943. Geraldine worked for attorney Graham Campbell for 8 1/2 years as his secretary. On May 6, 1951 she married Clifford Ballard and moved to Florala, Alabama. Geraldine worked at Paxton High School for 25 years, first as a teachers aide and then a bookkeeper. She retired in June 1991. She also loved reading, working in her yard and growing roses. Geraldine was a member of Paxton Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by husband, Clifford Ballard; daughter, Bonnie Jean Ballard; father, Lewis Cernik; mother, Frances Barrow; brother, Robert Cernik.
Geraldine is survived by her daughter, Barbara Smith and husband Hinton of Clear Springs, FL, son, Thomas Ballard and wife Kim of Mary Esther, grandsons Matthew Ballard and wife Veronica and Michael Smith and wife Candace, great granddaughters, River Anniston Smith, Brylee Kate Williams
Funeral services for Geraldine Cernik Ballard will be 3PM Tuesday October 8, 2019 at Evans Funeral Home with John Lovelady officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour before services. Interment will be in Paxton Cemetery.
