Gertrude M. Berry

Gertrude M. "Tina" Berry, 93, passed away peacefully April 21, 2013, while surrounded by family. A native of Union Point, GA, she was the daughter of the late Clady McKinley and Maddy Mae Andrews McKinley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Preston E. Berry Sr.; their son, Preston E. Berry, Jr.; and sister, Catherine Melkild. Mrs. Berry was a faithful member of the Princess Anne Women's Club of Virginia Beach, serving as their President from 1976-1978. As a member she touched many lives in her scholarship work and other community activities. One of her passions was serving on the Virginia Beach Crime Prevention Steering Committee. She was a strong proud Southern woman that was very devoted to her family. Surviving family members include three grandchildren, Tiffany Berry and her partner Maureen Shamaly, Tammy Dunn and her husband Thomas Dunn Sr., and Douglas Wilson and his wife Tyler Wilson; three great grandchildren, Kadyn and Madison Wilson, and Thomas Dunn Jr.; and a sister, Hazel Holden. Mrs. Berry also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends, both in Georgia and Virginia. The funeral service will be conducted at noon on Friday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel; family will receive friends one hour prior. Entombment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park on Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach. A gathering will follow both ceremonies at the family home also in Virginia Beach.
