Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home - Selbyville Obituary

Gertrude “Dee” Leizear, age 86, of Seaford and formerly of Selbyville died Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Acts Manor House in Seaford.  She was born in Washington, DC and was the daughter of the late Jessie and Alice (Bruff) Walker. 

Dee had been a pre-school teacher for many years. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and the Ruth Circle; member and former co-VP of the Selbyville Community Club; member of the Selbyville Library and volunteered extensively at the Manor House.  She was the founding member of the Sensational Singers at the Manor House – a group of three people singing while she played the piano.  Today that group has 20+ members and includes a variety of instruments.

“Ms. Dee” was loved by many for her sense of humor, caring heart and cookie baking skills.     She had a love of fishing, crabbing, traveling, the ocean and especially the Assateague ponies.  She loved music and musicals – her favorite was the Sound of Music.

She is survived by two sons, David B. Leizear and wife Debbie of Willards and Dennis B. Leizear and wife Allison of Wilmington; a daughter, Donna J. Reilly and husband Jim of Chester, MD; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry N. Leizear in 2007.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday, August 31 at Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville with Pastor Paul Rosa officiating. Friends may call an hour before the service. Burial will be private.

Due to restrictions surrounding COVID 19, masks and social distancing will be mandatory and seating will be limited.
