Not sure what to say?

So sad to hear of Gordon's passing. I remember him from student days at Christchurch. A kind and gentle man.

I first met Gordon as a fellow student at Christ Church College in Canterbury in 1965 where his musical gifts soon became apparent and contributed much to our chapel worship and the musical life of the college. It was here that he met Ian Coomber and founded their life-long friendship. We lost touch as our careers took us in very different directions. We re-established contact when he led an RSCM Summer School in Canterbury Cathedral. He seemed never to have changed - the same gentle sense...

On duty at Ripon Cathedral, whether Gordon was conducting an occasion or just visiting to support, I knew that I was in the presence of true greatness and ability. He shared his enthusiasm of excellence in music with everyone. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing , but honoured to have known him.

Such a great man that loves God and was amazing with church music. You left a mark in the sands of time for us in Nigeria during your visits for RSCM programmes. May your sould rest in perfect peace, sing on brother till we meet to part no more.

Please accept condolences on behalf of the kingston College family, especially the kingston College Chapel Choir and the Music fraternity in Jamaica. Gordon served as choirmaster for many years during which the chapel choir attained world wide recognition. We are greatful to have had him with us.

Requiem aeternam

My sister, niece, daughter and I are devastated that such a beautiful man could be taken so soon. We have very fond memories of Gordon through RSCM Australia Summer Schools. All our thoughts and prayers are with his family

I knew Gordon at College and remember him as a gentle and kind young man. He used to play the organ for our services. He was proud of coming from Stockton-on-Tees where it was said that the people speak English more clearly than anyone else. He was one of the first to stay on for a fourth year to do the new BEd. Love and respect from Janet McCulloch (Rouse)

With great sadness we are losing a very good friend in music and many other matters of interest. We will fondly remember him

An inspiring Director of The Northern Cathedral Singers. Greatley respected by Singers and their families. Now conducting the choirs in Heaven. Deepest sympathy to the family. Chris Smith and family.
