Grace Genette Blakely, 82, of Sun lakes, AZ passed away at the Friendship Village Hospice of the Valley on April 12, 2006. Grace was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Nelson Blakely, and her parents, Frederick and Irene Milligan, of Kelowna, British Columbia. Grace is survived by her sister, Marie Williams, of Kelowna; sons, Paul Blakely, of Longview, TX and Bob Blakely of San Marcos, CA; daughter, Barbara Nelson of Phoenix, AZ; daughters-in-law Erika Blakely of Longview, TX and Nansi Blakely of San Marcos, CA. She had four grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian Blakely of San Marcos, and Tiffany and Blair Nelson of Phoenix, AZ. Grace was born February 13, 1924 in Penticton, British Columbia. She was raised in and graduated from high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she met her husband. While Nelson served with the Royal Canadian Army Engineers in Europe during WWII, Grace and Nelson were married on October 18, 1943. In 1951 they immigrated to Steubenville, Ohio. They subsequently lived in Wheeling, West Virginia; Princeton, Illinois; Strongsville, Ohio; Grosselle, Michigan; Longview and Tyler, Texas, and finally to Sun Lakes, AZ. Grace was a devoted housewife and supportive mother and always found time to volunteer as a hospital "Candy Striper", at the Florence Crittenden Home and other charities. She was an avid golfer for over 50 years and loved playing bridge. She swam daily for exercise. She was loved by friends too numerous to count.
