Gracie Ann Surratt Boyd, 84, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on Oct. 4, 1938, to the late Luther and Melisha Payne Surratt. Mrs. Boyd retired from Pine State Knitwear. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her family and many friends. Gracie enjoyed telling everyone that she was the oldest of twelve. She was an avid softball player who played into her sixties and an avid bowler. Gracie was a diehard Duke fan. She is survived by a daughter, Teresa Boyd; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Maggie Boyd; grandchildren, Marcus Boyd, Marissa and Paul Howard; great-grandchildren, Beau Howard, twins Tripp and Trace Howard; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda Taylor, Brenda Jones, Jackie and Lewis Naumchik, Charlie Kiger; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve Surratt, David Surratt, Donald Surratt, Keith and Karen Surratt, Bessie Surratt, Pat Surratt, Margaret Bohlke, Von Smith; and her fur baby Scout; many nieces and nephews; a special friend, Tammy Green. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Garner Boyd; a son, Frank Garner Boyd Jr.; brothers, Jimmy Surratt, Wayne Surratt, Mack Surratt, and Jerry Surratt. A funeral service will be held Sunday, Aug. 27, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jonathan Casstevens officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 until 2 p.m.at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
