Not sure what to say?

I was privileged to have Dr. Keating as a teacher. The Upstate Medical community benefited immeasurably from his positive spirit and tireless efforts.
To his family: please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss.
Meghan Hayes, MD '99

I feel fortunate enough to have gotten to known Dr. Keating over my past three years at Upstate. He had it all passion, love, patience and devotion for all students. When he held lectures for Brain and Behavior, more students attended compared to others because he was simply amazing, had a knack for teaching and enjoyed what he was doing. What impressed me the most about him was his soft spoken yet influential manner of speaking. He has been one of the best teachers and advisors that I...

On behalf of the Experimental Aviation Association, Chapter 107, based at the Marcellus Airport, all the aviation community sends their deepest sympathies. Greg was always a smiling face and eager to join in any aviation activity. All of us who got to know Greg will miss him very much and his positive out look on life.
"The winds have welcomed you with softness,
The sun has blessed you with his warm hands
You have flown so high and so free,
That God has joined you in...

I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of Dr. Greg Keating's passing from my little sister who now attends Upstate Medical School. She called me with the news right away, as she remembered he was my "favorite teacher" from my own medical school days (graduated 2002). He was one of those people who made you actually enjoy learning. My peers and I spent countless afternoons with him in class & neuro anatomy lab having fun every minute. He was a gifted teacher and friend to most who met...

Dear Keating Family,
I would like to extend my deepest sympathy for your loss. Dr. Keating was someone I got to know very well over the course of my medical education. He was very encouraging and resourceful, and extremely fair. He always took a personal interest in his students, and made every attempt to help them. I remember, he had even come to visit me in the hospital when I was ill, and made arrangements for me to make-up my missed time. He will be missed greatly. The attached...

It’s with deep sorrow that I write these words. Although I’ve been at SUNY Upstate Medical University for only a little over a year, I’ve had many opportunities to interact with him. I could not have wished for a better dean, teacher, and person at the same time! I recall going to his office for a meeting and to my greatest surprise, he decided to interrupt his lunch to talk to me. He was unique at delivering even very difficult materials into understandable ones…all with an ever present...

Dear Keating family:
I am very sorry to hear of the death of you father. Emily called me on Friday to let me know. I have fond memories of delivering pizza to the house, and of course Matt being dropped off at the house. I am regretfull that I cannot make it to the services, but hope my sis Emmy, mom and Lara may be able to attend in my abscence.

Dr. Keating was an inspiring teacher and friend. I first met Greg Keating 5 years ago when I interviewed at Upstate, and was impressed with how involved he was as a Dean. As an instructor no one loved teaching and helping students more than he did. That was the kind of Dean he was, always caring for his students. I am incredibly saddened by the news of his passing. He contributed more to medicine in his young life than anyone could have ever imagined. I will miss my him dearly.

As a medical student at Upstate, I am just one of hundreds of people Dr. Keating has inspired and encouraged over the years; he was the kind of professor who, through lectures and simple conversations, challenged us to think about medicine and life in unconventional ways. After his lectures on artificial intelligence and brain plasticity, I knew I'd never think about the mind or the evolution of our species in the same way again... and as completely and totally nerdy as that sounds, I...
