Gregory Motycka Obituary

Gregory John Motycka, 53, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 from injuries related to a fall. Greg was born in Fort Ord, California, and grew up in Coventry, Connecticut. After high school, Greg toured the country for two years as a bass player and musical director for the production company, "Young American Showcase", based in St. Petersburg, Florida, an experience that shaped and developed his interest in music production and engineering. After Showcase, he attended and graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, subsequently residing in Nashville for the past 23 years. He is survived by daughter Abby Motycka and son Eli Motycka of Nashville; mother and step-father, Stephanie and Doug Murray of North Stonington, CT, father and step-mother, John and Susan Motycka, of Coventry, CT, sister Metta Motycka of Woodbury, VT, and step-sisters Lori Ratchelous of Cheshire, CT, and Mary-Ellen Delaney of Boston, MA. Greg was a musician with an especially fine ear that he put to use when working in various Nashville recording studios. He was an avid collector of historic military antiquities as well as a motorcycle enthusiast. He operated a motorcycle repair business and had special interest in vintage motorcycles, notably Indian and Harley Davidson. He will be greatly missed by his extended family as well as good friends, Roger Alan Nichols, Doug Boucher, Myles Martinson, and business partner Scotty Wrecked, all of Nashville. A remembrance gathering will be held Saturday, November 26th from 12 - 3 PM, at Kent Hollow Farm, 65 Tanguay Rd, Kent CT.

Dear Greg, was so sad to find that you are out of this world. But you always were anyway..was down here and trying to look you up. I want to thank you for mixing my song for me down here in N, years ago,at the cost of a six pack of Diet Doctor Pepper. And I'm not sure I ever told you that Paulina liked the song you produced at Berklee for me. You always had the best smile...and always upbeat, and highly creative. We loved you in Boston, you were a hard guy not to love( had to keep N eye on my girl Courtney around you-just kidding)you always were a gentleman...you had/ have God's spirit in you. I guess the next productions will have to be in heaven...I hear they have the best gear. Until then, they say rest in peace, I say go dancing on rainbows- the rent's paid. love you Greg. Peace

Greg and I met in early 1995. Over the next 20 years, Greg and I built a friendship that to this day is unmatched. I always said he was one of my life friends. No matter what, our friendship would weather time....and it did. We rode our bikes every chance we could, we golfed just as often. For a while, we took trips to CT to play on the family course. We went into the motorcycle business together too. My heart goes out to John and Susie and all of the other family members. He was/is everything a friend should be and I was proud to call him my friend. I'm so thankful the took the time to know me. Until I see you and Johnny again, take care my Brother and keep your knees in the breeze.

I am shocked and greatly saddened by this news, Greg was an amazing and talented young man I knew from CHS, I will never forget the mid-80's winter he invited many of his old Coventry friends and new friends from Berklee to his parents house in VT for a song and memory filled skiing weekend. It has been a sweet memory for me these many years. I am so very sorry for the loss of the Motyka families. Thoughts of strength and love to all of you. Greg will always be with you.

I am so sad and shocked to hear of Greg's passing. He was my neighbor and best friend in High School. I don't think I have seen Greg in 30 years but never felt like we weren't still great friends. SO many great memories! I will miss you Greg!
