Gustav (Gus) Schmid, age 88, died February 7, 2020 in Norman, Oklahoma. He was born June 1, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA, the child of Gustav A. and Lillian M. (nee Pfeiffer) Schmid. He graduated from Barnegat High School in Barnegat, NJ and enjoyed attending many of their class reunions. Gus married Elizabeth (Betty) Rack on July 9, 1955 in Bryn Mawr, PA. He attended La Salle University, Philadelphia and graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Physics. He was a lifelong member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge, Haddonfield, NJ. He loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren, his extended family, his many friends, his church, his profession and his work families, his volunteer work at the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Lyric Theatre, his travel of the world, and his garden and birdfeeders. His greatest pleasure in life was making people laugh. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty, and his brother, Robert Schmid. Survivors include his children, Linda Schmid, PhD of Greeley, CO, Janet Moore and her husband Montgomery of Norman, OK, Glenn and his wife Emily of OKC, and Diane Senatore and husband Scott of Ayer, MA; his sister-in-law, Catherine Schmid of Philadelphia, PA, and brother-in-law, William Rack, MD and Barbara of Santa Barbara, CA; and his grandchildren, Taylor Moore and wife Karin, Chase Moore and wife Dana, Kayla Dickson and husband Tim, Claudia Littlejohn and husband Brandon, Marian and Geoffry Schmid, and Paige, Cole, and Brooke Senatore. The family would like to thank the staffs of Spanish Cove Retirement Community, Canadian Valley Regional Hospital, Grace Living Center, and Norman Regional Hospital for their tender care of beloved Gus. A celebration of his life will be held at Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd., OKC, on Thursday, February 13, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oklahoma City National Memorial, 620 North Harvey Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73102, "In memory of Gus Schmid."
