H. Thomas "Tom" Shreve

SHREVE, H. Thomas "Tom", 82, of Richmond, Va., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Roudabush Shreve, and his father, Harry Thomas Shreve, and his long-time companion, Martha Milam. He is survived by his sons: Tom and Jim, and their mother, Mary. Tom was born and raised in Staunton, Va. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, attended Roanoke College and was a proud "Hokie," graduating from Virginia Tech in 1958. He served in the United States Naval Reserve before beginning a distinguished 36 year career with C&P Telephone (now Verizon). During his career, he worked his way up through the ranks to the Director level. His career took him to New York City, Norfolk, Roanoke, and eventually brought him to Richmond. At the height of his career, he maintained offices and operations in five different states. Tom was active in professional organizations and served as the President of the National Association of Accountants. During a well-deserved early retirement, Tom enjoyed his other passions: Virginia Tech sports, fishing, travel, and volunteer work. Tom had a great sense of humor and was known for his ability to make people laugh. He was active with Old Dominion Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers, where he also served as Chapter President. He enjoyed cross-country car trips, Broadway shows, and attending sporting events. Visitation and a reception for family and friends will be from 3-6:00 p.m., Monday, November 6, at Woody Funeral Home-Parham Chapel, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229.
