Harlan Peters August 3, 1923- April 9, 2024

WEBER CITY, VA - Harlan Peters, age 100 of Weber City, VA went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Harlan was born on August 3, 1923 in the Manville Community of Scott County, VA to the late Lofa Ray and Nora Edna McDavid Peters.

Harlan was a member of the U.S. Army during WWII having served as a 557 Anit-Aircraft Machine Gunner and operated four 50 caliber machine guns. He landed at Omaha Beach and went to Rhine River and waited for the Russians to take Berlin. Mr. Peters later worked and retired from Eastman Kodak. He was a member of the former Lawson Memorial Church. Harlan was an avid outdoorsman, loved to hunt and fish. He was a "Tinkerer" and gardener. He played the harmonica with great fervor. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Peters is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 74 years Beulah Farmer Peters; brother, Gordon Peters who died in infancy.

He is survived by his daughters, Sherry Peters Wells and friend Jim Slemp, Rhonda Peters, Rita Peters, Sandra Peters Hall and husband Jessie Hall; grandchildren, Michael Wells and wife Lisa, Kay Hall; great-grandchildren, Evan Wells and Andrew Wells.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Colonial Funeral Home from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM. Funeral service will be in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 PM with Billy Herndon officiating. Interment will follow at Holston View Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honors Team. Pallbearers will be Mike Wells, Evan Wells, Andrew Wells, Jim Slemp, John Farmer, Jack McDavid, Chuck Wells & Kay Hall. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jessie Hall, Chester Shell, Randy Gibson, Danny Willis and Howard Gardner.
