Harold E. Bailey

Harold E. Bailey, 77, of New London, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk. He was born on June 28, 1933 in New London and was a life long resident. He was a 1951 graduate of New London High School. Harold started as a janitor for the United States Post Office and worked his way up to Post Master, retiring after 34 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Harold was a member of the New London United Methodist Church and was a past member of the New London Rotary. He was also a life member of the New London American Legion Broome Wood Post 292. Harold served on the New London Village Council, Recreation Park Board and New London School Board. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joan (Cowan) Bailey; sons, Scott (Lisa) Bailey of Wakeman and Mike Bailey of Ashland; daughter, Kristin Dillon of New London and 9 grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Anna (Swope) Bailey. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2011 from 5-9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London with Rev. Cathy Ake officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Grove Street Cemetery, New London.
