Harry Dudley Miller III

81, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2016.  

He was born in Iowa on May 24, 1935, and grew up in Southport, IN where he graduated from Southport High School. He served in the U.S. Army at White Sands Proving Ground in New Mexico from 1954 to 1956, before earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska.

He earned a law degree from Indiana University in Indianapolis and devoted his career to the practice of law. He was a director of the Lawyer's Assistance Program for the state of Indiana for several years.

He enjoyed cooking meals for his family, fishing, and traveling, especially to Mexico in later years. He loved music and art, took great joy in watching his grandsons grow up, and could be found during basketball season cheering for IU.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Bannon Miller of Indianapolis; his sons, Joe Miller (wife Julie) of Carmel, and Christopher Miller of Indianapolis; his daughter, Shelley Mesler of Indianapolis; his grandsons, Benjamin, Luke, and Julian; and his sister, Mary Anne Buran (husband Ronald) of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Elsea; his father, Harry Miller II; his stepfather, Ralph Elsea; his brother, Paul Elsea; and his sister, Joanne Beck.

A memorial service will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Leppert Mortuary, 740 E. 86th St. in Nora. Visitation will take place before the memorial from 4 - 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association.
