Frank A. Welsh & Sons Funeral Home - Chelsea Obituary

Helen passed into eternal life on Monday August 19 after a short decline of health. She was 93 years of age. Born and raised in Chelsea, Helen was a daughter of the late Antoni and Mary (Janiak) Marcin. She attended local schools and helped support her family working for several years with Griffith Shoe in Chelsea. During WW II Helen was married to US Navy Seaman, Kenneth V. Howard. She was widowed in 2012 after sharing 67 years of marriage with Ken and was proud to be a local policeman’s wife for those years. She was also a devoted homemaker and mother, working outside of her home for several years as an inspector for American Optical “Cool-Ray” in Chelsea. In their retirement Helen enjoyed traveling with her husband, visiting Hawaii, Switzerland, Mackinaw Island and many other destinations. Helen lived in Chelsea for most of her life. She relocated to Franklin a few years ago in order to be close to her daughter Diane and family. Helen was a member at the Chelsea Senior Citizen’s Center. There she enjoyed volunteering in activities, socializing at events and traveling with the center. Helen was a gifted quilter and enjoyed crocheting. She applied these talents as a member of the “Empty Spoolers” at the center, fashioning quilts and gifts for children and others in need. In addition to her parents, her husband and retired Chelsea Police Lt. Ken Howard, Helen was also predeceased by several siblings; Sophie Marcin, Edward Marcin, Frances Overholt, Anna Marcin and Anthony Marcin. She was the devoted mother of Diane Howard and her husband William of Franklin. Cherished grandmother of Kimberly Woodruff and her husband Michael of Lawrenceville NJ and Charise Heater of Franklin. Adored great-grandmother of McKenna and Ivy Heater and Mia and Zachary Woodruff. And dear sister of John Marcin of Amesbury.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Diane and Family, my sincerest sympathy on the passing of Helen. I wish I could have attended her services. Helen was one of our popular members at the Chelsea Senior Center, and one that I most enjoyed talking with and listening to all of her stories. She was a true expert at her craft of quilting and sewing. I will always hold a special place in my heart for Helen. May she be full of light and love in her next journey.
