Helen Mae Newman, 84, of Kingsport, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Born on May 24, 1930 in Blountville, TN, she was the daughter of the late King David Newman and Katie White Newman. Ms. Newman was a 1949 graduate of Blountville High School. She attended Springdale Missionary Baptist Church in Kingsport and retired as manager from Wal Mart in Elizabethton. She is survived by her brother, Cecil Newman and his wife, Phyllis; niece, Michelle Carpenter and her husband, Marcus; great-niece, Caroline Carpenter; great-nephews, Drew and Nick Carpenter; and several cousins. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with the Reverend Alan Buckles officiating. At the request of the family, the committal services will be held in the Chapel following the funeral service. Burial will be in the Garden of Love at East Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Springdale Missionary Baptist Church, 1616 Haga Rd., Kingsport, TN 37660, www.springdalebaptistchurch.org. Helen lived in Walnut Hills for over 19 years. She was well known and loved by all. She served on the Board of Directors of the Homeowners Association for many terms and was re-elected year after year. She was dedicated to the beauty of Walnut Hills and worked tirelessly to ensure it until she retired from the Board in 2012. She enjoyed watching my son Guy grow tomatoes in her small back yard the last couple of years, but she and Cecil loved eating them even more. We will miss seeing Helen, sitting on her porch swing, waving to all her neighbors and greeting all the neighbor dogs (especially Dexter). She was a wonderful kind women and she will be sorely missed.

SORRY TO HEAR OF HELENS PASSING SHE WAS LIKE A GRANDMOTHER TO MY KIDS WHEN THEY WERE GROWING UP WHEN SHE LIVED ON CHADWELL ROAD. GOING TO MISS HER DEARLY BUT HAVE HOPES OF SEEING HER ONE OF THESE DAYS. WHEN SHE WAS MY NEIGHBOR SHE WAS ALWAYS LIKE FAMILY. PRAYING FOR FAMILY FOR STRENGTH DURING THIS TIME.
