Dr. Henry A. Benavides age 64, of Harlingen entered into rest Tuesday, March 1, 2016. He was born on August 2, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, The University of Houston with a pharmacy degree and The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with his medical degree specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was a practicing physician in Harlingen for 26 years.
He was preceded in death by his father Henry Benavides.
Survivors include two daughters, Vanessa Bena-vides of San Antonio and Mallory Benavides of California; his mother, Espe-ranza (Hope) Benavides; sister, Lisa Benavides, three brothers, George Benavides, Rick Benavides and Roger Benavides all of San Antonio, his fiancé, Fabiola Madrazo of Harlingen and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin today at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace from 1:00PM to 9:00PM with the recitation of the rosary at 7pm.
A visitation will also be held on Sunday at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 (210) 495-7770 in San Antonio beginning at 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM a rosary will be held at 7:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
Arrangments are with Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.

He was my Dr for 5 of my children. I died on my last Cesarean 3 times on him, but will not forget when he told me He had to give me a shot to bring me back to life. He was a wonderful, caring doctor. God bless his family. One of a kind Doctor.

We sincerely express our deepest condolences. Dr. Benavides was instrumental in the care of our father, R. A. ( Chalio) Rangel in 1993 in Harlingen, Tx. Our Dad was in a fishing trip with Henry Sr. and George when he suffered a aneurysm. We will keep you and your family in our prayers and thoughts. God Bless.

To my cousins Mallory & Vanessa Benavides, Grandma Hope, my Dad, and the rest of my Benavides family, you have been in my heart and prayers during this time. When I think of my Uncle Henry, I remember our many exciting visits to Harlingen growing up (almost every weekend it feels like!) and how he was the uncle who would ALWAYS be teasing us nieces and nephews, but also making us laugh at the same time! He was always cracking jokes, and laughing his distinct laugh (that would scare away Brittany for many years, even if she just heard it in another room). It's all of these happy memories and many more that I hope you can take with you & bring comfort and joy to your heart forever. Sending all of my love...

We will miss you dearly Dr. B but rest in peace. Delivered my 3 children and continued seeing him. My husband would see him often at the airport and they would keep up.

The world and medical community has lost a great talent, son, brother, father, and cousin. RIP Primo. It was good seeing you at the reunion and hearing about the good old days. Prayers go out to the rest of the family especially my Tia Hope; the pain of losing a child is unspeakable and unbearable, it is just not the way it should be. My deepest condolences to the Benavides family. My wife was one of doctors many patients. I'd like to share a story of our experience with Dr. Benavides. Just a little over 21 years ago, Dr. Benavides helped bring my son into this world via cesesran section. During the surgery my wife was under the influence of the medication you receive during this type of surgery. Dr. Benavides was cool as a cucumber and proceeded to talk to my wife to ease her nervousness. He asked, "So, what are you going to name your baby?" The entire operating room became very quite awaiting her response, although you could hear the radio in the far distance. She replied, "Henry"! The entire room erupted in a big laugh and Doctor looked at me and said "is that right?" I said, "no promises sir, but I think the meds are really kicking in". Needless to say, we decided to name our son, Manuel. He was almost a Henry, and my son knows the story well. I hope that this story finds comfort in those who mourn his loss. May almighty God grant Dr. Benavides eternal peace and may he hold near his family during this most difficult time.

Tia Hope and all my cousins I was so saddened to hear that my cousin Henry passed away. Just know he is no longer in pain and that he is with his dad and our Heavenly Father . I was so glad I was able to spend time with him last summer at our cousin reunion it brought back so many memories of when we were kids and of course that laugh of his who could ever forget that .
