Dr. Henry J. Montoye, Jr., age 98 of Okemos, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at the Bickford of Okemos. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at St. Martha Parish, 1100 W.Grand River Ave., Okemos, MI. Fr. Michael Murray will officiate with burial to follow in Glendale Cemetery, Okemos. Family will receive friends at St. Martha Parish Tuesday one hour prior to Mass. Dr. Montoye was born on May 4, 1921 in Chicago, IL to the late Henry and Clara (Harpling) Montoye, Sr. On June 10, 1944 he married Betty Anne Barnard and together raised 3 children. She later passed on January 2, 2014. Dr. Montoye attended Indiana University and the University of Illinois where he earned his PhD. He was a Professor at MSU in the department of Kinesiology and later Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin. He enjoyed bike riding, sailing and painting. Dr. Montoye is survived by his children: Richard (Cecelia) Montoye of Chelsea, MI; Allen (Mary) Montoye of Mt. Pleasant, MI; and Marilyn Montoye Ludwig of Moorpark, CA. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Pamela (John) Vincent, Brian (Sheri) Montoye, Alexander (Laura) Montoye, Eric (Madeleine) Montoye, Matt and Jake Ludwig, along with eleven great-grandchildren. Dr. Montoye's family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Bickford for the wonderful care and compassion that was given over the past couple years. In lieu of flowers, contributions given in Dr. Montoye's name are suggested to the Henry J. and Betty Montoye Endowed Scholarship at Michigan State University College of Education, 620 Farm Lane, Room 513, East Lansing, MI 48824.
