DeWitt
Herbert Zinser passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at his home in DeWitt, MI at the age of 76. Herb was born in Binghamton, NY on June 25, 1940. Herb's family moved to Detroit, MI in 1948 before settling in Flint, MI. After settling in Flint, Herb worked his way through high school and college at the family business, the Country Butcher. Herb graduated from Dye High School in Flint in 1957 where he excelled on the All Conference football team. He graduated from Ferris State Institute in 1965 with a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health Science. He later went on to earn a Master's degree in Public Health Administration from Western Michigan University. While attending Ferris State Institute, he met Marolyn Mae Mishler, whom he married on August 21, 1965. Together they raised three children. Herb is survived by his wife, Marolyn; daughter, Kimberly Schieberl; sons, Erick (Julie) Zinser, Craig (Jodi) Zinser; four grandchildren, Hannah and Olivia Zinser, Natalie and Nicholas Schieberl; brother, Harry (Kathleen) Zinser of Fresno, CA; and several nieces and nephews. Herb enjoyed a long career in public service working at the Kalkaska Health Department from 1973 to 1979 and later retired from the State of Michigan Health Department in 2002, after 22 years of service. In Herb's free time he enjoyed boating on Torch Lake and cheering on the MSU Spartans and the Detroit Lions. In 2007, Herb was inducted into the Flint Area Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1953 state championship Dye High School football team. Visitation will be at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, DeWitt Chapel on Thursday, June 22, from 2-4pm and from 6-8pm. The funeral service will be Friday, June 23, 11am with a visitation one hour prior at Heritage Baptist Church, 1380 East Round Lake Rd., DeWitt, MI, 48820. Lighting a candle on Herb's birthday in loving memory of our wonderful cousin who passed away much too early. We are so grateful about the moments we shared, the time we spent together in the US and in Germany. We are missing Herb, he lives forever in our hearts and minds. Thank you so much for all.

It has often been said that "a good man is hard to find." I could look in all the usual places; but my friend is not there. Now I must look up to find him; for he now resides in Heaven. I am thankful that he knew Christ as his Savior. You know that your work on Earth is over, when God calls you home.

Where do you start? Herb or "Skippy" as the Tennessee Zinser's called him, was the best Uncle to his nephew, Mark and me and Great Uncle to Matthew or "Little Gronk" as Herb call Matthew. He was so sweet to me from the moment I entered into the Zinser family, 21 years ago. He and Marolyn were the best and always held a special place in my and Mark's heart. Every time we saw them, it was like we just saw them. Had such a fun time with them at Torch Lake a couple of summers ago, he showed us his favorite places to boat and eat. We will miss him so much and loved knowing him all these years. Love you Herb and until we meet again....
