Howard L. Storm, 59, of Decatur, Nebraska, passed away March 8, 2013 with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Church of Jesus Christ Decatur Restoration Branch in Decatur with Evangelist Dale Wolf officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur with military honors provided by the American Legion Roger Crum Post #215 of Decatur. Visitation will be held 5:00 â€“ 8:00 P.M. Monday, March 11, 2013 at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Howard was born June 3, 1953, in rural Macy, Nebraska, to Leon D. and Pauline V. (Jump) Rose Storm. Howard served in the United States Army from July 17, 1970 until April 15, 1973. He earned a Certificate of Achievement from the 30th Air Defense Army Brigade in recognition for outstanding achievement during the period of January 6, 1972 to April 3, 1973 in Okinawa, Japan. His military career then continued in the United States Army Reserve from April 15, 1973 until he was honorably discharged on July 16, 1976. He married Regina Huffman on November 9, 1973 in Decatur. They made their home in Decatur. They had one daughter, Heather Grandgenett. Howard was a loving husband, devoted father, and grandfather. He was a good, honest man with integrity. He would do anything for anyone. Howard worked for the former IBP currently known as Tyson until 1995 as a General Foreman in the Extension Department. He had worked in the packing house industry around the Sioux City area for 19 years. He then started a millwright company in 1995 with his son-in-law and together Mechanical Contractors, Inc. was established and still continues to operate. Howard was recently employed with JBS Swift in Marshalltown, Iowa. Howard was a member of the Decatur Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department for 20 years. He received a Certificate of Recognition for EMT of the year on February 3, 2001. Howard served on the Village of Decatur Town Board from 1998 to 2006. He was a member of the American Legion Roger Crum Post #215 of Decatur. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. He hunted deer, elk, bear, turkey, wild boar, pheasant, and ram. He enjoyed riding his Harley. He is survived by his wife, Regina of Decatur, NE; his daughter, Heather and Robert Grandgenett of South Sioux City, NE; three grandchildren, Colton, Beau, and Brooklyn Grandgenett of South Sioux City, NE; four brothers, Dalbert (Virginia) Storm of Bancroft, NE, Duane (Ruby) Storm of Greeley, CO, Douglas (Kellene) Storm of Decatur, NE, Curtis Storm of Lyons, NE; two sisters, Marilyn (David) Johnson of Ozark, MO and Vicki Davis-Hankins of Lyons, NE; one half-brother, Charles (Gina) Storm of Olathe, KS; one half-sister, Christine (Mike) Wilkerson of Gardner, KS; mother-in-law, Virginia Huffman of Decatur, NE; step-father, Don Rose of Lyons, NE; his best friend Ronald "Shag" Freemont, Sr. of Decatur, NE; as well as a host of family and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Roy W. Huffman.
