i read about Hugh Morton today in THE ANIMAL VOICE MAGAZINE How great thou are and any one who protects nature is great ''In every walk with nature one receives far more then he seeks.''

Hugh Morton inspired me to become a dedicated voice for our natural world.

Hello, My name is John Clark and I flew my hangglider at Grandfather Mountain back in the 70's and altho I never met Mr Morton....I really appreciated him having and opening up such a fantastic flying site....I sure wish that I could have met him! I remember Mildrd the bear as I landed in a tree in her habitat. That was interesting........she just stood there and looked up at me! Anyway, take care and God Bless. John Clark

HI,My mother Francis Leigh Laporte grew up with Mr.Morton although she was much younger.She moved there in 1934.Her father William Francis Laporte came down to work for the Huningtons at Brookgreen gardens ect...He later went to work for the shipyard in Wilmington before and during world war11.My sister inherited pictures of my mother I believe to have been taken at Greenfield Park or nearby.I once asked her "Who had taken them",as I was amazed at their quility.She replied"Oh just a...

I have many fond childhood memories of meeting Hugh during visits to Grandfather Mountain, and my father Herman's stories about their time together at UNC. I was delighted to encounter Hugh again some years ago at a meeting of the NC Trails Association, where he was a featured speaker. He made countless important contributions to the lives of individuals, to our state's civic life, and to the world's visual image of North Carolina.

Mrs. Morton, I have thought of you and Mr. Morton often since 1992, when I left AAA as Ralph Peters' administrative assistant - to start a family. My parents have since moved back to my dad's old home place in Banner Elk and built a house, after living in Charlotte for 40 years raising me and my sister. So, we have been spending quite a bit of time there. We just recently found out my dad has kidney cancer and we are there even more now.

My daughter, Katie Jill, is now 14 years...

We will be appreciating and enjoying Hugh Morton's legacy when we retire to North Carolina in a few months. Our most sincere sympathy and our prayers are with his family.

It seems like yesterday that Hugh Morton came to our elementary school in Wallace to ask all the children to donate a few quarters to bring the USS North Carolina home. The feeling I have when I see the Battleship is amazing. His photographs are so special to North Carolina folk. He was a "down home" type of guy.
