I was blessed to have been taught by Dr. D'Hemecourt at LSU from 1976-1980. Dr. "D" was instrumental in urging me to apply for my first job (which I received!) as a professional journalist in 1980. His passion for journalism -- and for life -- made a lasting impression on me and I have always considered him as a mentor, an inspiration, and a friend! He will be greatly missed by his former students.
