Jack Speyer died unexpectedly on August 6, 2019. He was 73. Jack was best known locally for his antique business, Jack Speyer Antiques, which opened on Route 9 in Leeds in 1987. His business was as much an aesthetic and educational endeavor as it was a commercial enterprise. He immersed himself...

Not sure what to say?

I have been wondering about Jack, and only now, reading this obituary, did I find out about his life, and death. We were good friends and shared an apartment in Lawrence while Jack, Lana and I were at KU in the 60s. His smile from behind the wheel of his Sunbeam Alpine made everyone happier. I wish we'd been able to see each other again, after those college years. I'm sorry you're gone, Jack.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Jack’s death over a year ago. I’m from wmass but live in the Boston area. I’m also a fountain pen aficionado. I bought many a beauty from Jack over the years. His prices were fair but it was the encounters with Jack and his knowledge and stories about all he collected that drew me back for decades. He was a lovely man and my trips back home will never be the same now that he abd his fascinating shop are shuttered. My memories of many an afternoon stop on...

I didn't know Jack but Sharon is my friend. I hope it's ok to say a prayer for Jack's family and friends he left behind. Jack's time isn't done he will live on in the memories of his family and friends.

As a loyal patron of Jack Speyer's antiques shop for many years, I lamented seeing that his shop had closed. However, I assumed that Jack had closed shop due to retirement or perhaps he had decided to relocate to be closer to family. I am so so sorry to have only just learned that Jack passed away last August. He was a kind soul who shared his knowledge and appreciation of all things artistic whenever my family members and I visited his shop. Rest in peace, Jack Speyer, you will be greatly...

Sharon I remember Jack's shop full of treasures on Route 9 and how he knew so much about all of it. He was kind and patient, and he liked to talk about what was important. I do remember him, even after all these years. Peace to you, Sharon.

I have seen little of Jack in the recent past, but had the joy to visit his shop and the family in the past when visiting Massachusetts form the west Washington. Jack knew history and had the eye of an artist, and was his own person. All this was evident when you entered the shop, and it was a joy to be able to visit him there.

Jack may not have been the most simple person with whom to share a life, but integrity and commitment humanity made one feel lucky to have been among his...

I'm a long time friend of Jack's from the antique world. You will be sadly missed. My love and thoughts are with Sharon, John and family. Love Jan Williams - Leeds

Using a mitre jack bought from Jack Speyer

I have a number of reminders of Jack in my shop. We lived near Jacks shop in Leeds and I spent many hours trolling through the vintage tools. I will fondly remember my conversations with Jack about the tools and their history. I just came across his obituary. We are making a trip back home from California and a stop there was on my itinerary. I will stop there anyway. Jack, I restored the mitre jack you sold me and it will now be my memorial to your memory. Fair winds and thanks for the...

Dear Sharon & John,
Knowing Jack only a bit, I also know how fortunate you are to have had him in your lives.
May good memories and the joy he brought to you move you forward every day and nurture you every night.
