I am sorry for your loss. May God provide strength and comfort to the family during this time of grief. God is close to the brokenhearted.

Is it ever enjoyable to read an obit for someone you cared for or about? The obvious answer is no, but the obit for Dr. Birge did make me laugh. It may well be the best written obituary I've read because it seemed to truly reflect his personality. I knew Dr. Birge through MacGregor Medical, and although I had very little direct contact with him, I appreciated his dry humor, sharp wit and respect for patients and employees.

To the family of Dr. Jim Birge:

We knew him as "Birge" at Family Health Center in Okanogan. He showed up at our monthly provider meetings and brought his intelligent and witty leadership along. I enjoyed his characteristic humor and occasional sarcasm. He always had a smile and bowl of candy ready in his office, he was always willing to listen. Jim was one of the first people I met at Mac Gregor Clinic and witty and dry. My wife at the time and Eileen who was working at the Lighthouse used to go out to dinner. Very bright and skilled, I have thought of him often over the years. A gentleman.
